St James City Farm, Gloucester

St James City Farm - Albany StreetGloucester GL1 4NG
Date Visited: 03/09/2018 by Dad Lee

One of our favourite places to pop into for half hour or so. Today we spent nearer two hours as they had 'fluffies' petting throughout the day. The kids got to have rabbits, guinea pigs and even a chicken on their laps for cuddles and strokes. The volunteers who run this place were more than happy to take photos and we got some great souvenirs of the day.

If you haven't been to the Gloucester City Farm before (official name St James City Farm) then it's difficult to know what to expect. It's very small but big enough to keep the kids engaged for a while, with cows, pigs, horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, chickens and a huge owl to explore! There's also a Cafe on site providing hot drinks, homemade cakes etc at very reasonable prices.

Another fantastic free event which we try to attend whenever it is on. The Cheltenham Society of Model Engineers (CSME) open their gates approximately 6 times a year and for 80p a ride you and your little ones can experience riding steam and diesel locomotives at both ground and raised level. Also on display are model boats on the lake and steam engines.

Tea, coffee and cakes are available at very reasonable prices. All proceeds go to keeping this wonderful little society run.

Jet Age Museum, Gloucester

Jet Age Museum - Meteor Business Park, Cheltenham Road East, Gloucester, GL2 9QL
Date Visited: 02/09/2018 by Dad Lee

This fantastic volunteer-run museum is a must visit with your kids. Visited with my kids after food at the Aviator Inn and they loved climbing in and out of the exhibits, four cockpits in total including their particular favourite 'Biggles'. The volunteers were both helpful and informative and were extremely friendly towards the children. Outside there are two larger planes to climb into, the Trident and the Vulcan, although the latter had a metre height limit and the child is expected to be able to climb the very steep and tight ladder unaided.

Although only open on weekends and bank holidays, this facility is FREE and ideal for killing an hour or two on a cloudy weekend.

There is a cafe on site serving hot drinks and some food.
